أعْطَاهُمُ اللهُ رُوحَ خُمُول، وأَعْطَاهُم عُيُونًا كَيْ لا يُبْصِرُوا، وآذَانًا كَيْ لا يَسْمَعُوا، إِلى هذَا اليَوم/God gave them a sluggish spirit, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day

لا شَكَّ أَنَّكُم تَقُولُونَ لي هذَا المَثَل: أَيُّها الطَّبيب، إِشْفِ نَفسَكَ
إنجيل القدّيس لوقا04/من22حتى30/:”كانَ جمبعُ الَّذين في المَجْمَع يَشْهَدُونَ لَيَسُوع، ويَتَعَجَّبُونَ مِن كَلِمَاتِ النِّعْمَةِ الخَارِجَةِ مِنْ فَمِهِ، ويَقُولُون: «أَلَيْسَ هذَا ٱبنَ يُوسُف؟». فقَالَ لَهُم: «لا شَكَّ أَنَّكُم تَقُولُونَ لي هذَا المَثَل: أَيُّها الطَّبيب، إِشْفِ نَفسَكَ. وكُلُّ ما سَمِعْنا أَنَّكَ صَنَعْتَهُ في كَفَرْنَاحُوم، إِصْنَعْهُ أَيْضًا هُنَا في وَطَنِكَ!». ثُمَّ قَال: «أَلحَقَّ أَقُولُ لَكُم: لا يُقْبَلُ نَبِيٌّ في وَطَنِهِ. وَبِٱلحَقِّ أَقُولُ لَكُم: أَرَامِلُ كَثِيرَاتٌ كُنَّ في إِسْرائِيل، أَيَّامَ إِيلِيَّا، حِينَ أُغلِقَتِ السَّماءُ ثَلاثَ سِنِينَ وسِتَّةَ أَشْهُر، وحَدَثَتْ مَجَاعَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ في كُلِّ البِلاد، ولَمْ يُرسَلْ إِيليَّا إِلى أَيٍّ مِنهُنَّ، بَلْ أُرسِلَ إِلى ٱمْرَأَةٍ أَرمَلَةٍ في صَرْفَتِ صَيْدَا. وبُرْصٌ كَثِيرُونَ كانُوا في إِسرائِيل، أَيَّامَ إِلِيشَعَ النَّبيّ، فَلَمْ يَطْهُرْ أَيٌّ مِنْهُم، بَلْ طَهُرَ نُعْمَانُ السُّرْيَانِيّ ». فٱمْتَلأَ جَمِيعُ الَّذِينَ في المَجْمَعِ غَضَبًا، حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذلِكَ. وقَامُوا فَأَخْرَجُوهُ إِلى خَارِجِ المَدِينَة، وٱقْتَادُوهُ إِلى حَرْفِ الجَبَل، المَبْنِيَّةِ عَلَيْهِ مَدِينَتُهُم، لِيَطْرَحُوهُ عَنْهُ. أَمَّا هُوَ فَجَازَ في وَسَطِهِم وَمَضَى.”

رسالة القدّيس بولس إلى أهل رومة11/من01حتى08/:”يا إِخوَتِي، أَلَعَلَّ اللهَ رَفَضَ شَعْبَهُ؟ حَاشَا! فإِنِّي أَنَا أَيْضًا إِسْرَائِيلِيّ، مِنْ نَسْلِ إِبْرَاهِيم، مِنْ سِبْطِ بِنْيَامِين. لا، لَمْ يَرْفُضِ اللهُ شَعْبَهُ، وقَدْ عَرَفَهُ مُنْذُ القَدِيم! أَوَمَا تَعْلَمُونَ مَا يَقُولُ الكِتَابُ في شَأْنِ إِيلِيَّا، كَيْفَ كَانَ يُخَاطِبُ اللهَ شَاكِيًا إِسْرَائِيلَ وَيَقُول: «يَا رَبّ، قَتَلُوا أَنْبِيَاءَكَ، وَهَدَمُوا مَذَابِحَكَ، وَبَقِيتُ أَنَا وَحْدي، وهُم يَطْلُبُونَ نَفْسِي!». ولكِنْ مَاذَا يُجِيبُهُ اللهُ في الوَحي؟: «إِنِّي أَبْقَيْتُ لي سَبْعَةَ آلافِ رَجُل، مَا حَنَوا رُكْبَةً لِلبَعْل!». كَذلِكَ أَيْضًا في الوَقتِ الحَاضِر، لا تَزَالُ تُوجَدُ بَقِيَّةٌ بَاقِيَةٌ بِفَضْلِ ٱخْتِيَارِ النِّعْمَة. فإِذَا كَانَ الٱخْتِيَارُ بِالنِّعْمَة، فَلَيْسَ هُوَ إِذًا مِنَ الأَعَمَال، وإِلاَّ فَمَا عَادَتِ النِّعْمَةُ نِعْمَة. فمَاذَا إِذًا؟ إِنَّ مَا يَطْلُبُهُ إِسْرَائِيلُ لَمْ يَنَلْهُ، بَلْ نَالَهُ المُخْتَارُون. أَمَّا البَاقُونَ فَتَصَلَّبَتْ قُلُوبُهُم، كَمَا هُوَ مَكْتُوب: «أَعْطَاهُمُ اللهُ رُوحَ خُمُول، وأَعْطَاهُم عُيُونًا كَيْ لا يُبْصِرُوا، وآذَانًا كَيْ لا يَسْمَعُوا، إِلى هذَا اليَوم».

God gave them a sluggish spirit, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day.
Letter to the Romans 11/01-08/:”I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? ‘Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars; I alone am left, and they are seeking my life.’ But what is the divine reply to him? ‘I have kept for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.’ So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace. What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened, as it is written, ‘God gave them a sluggish spirit, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day.’”

Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, “Doctor, cure yourself!”
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 04/22-30:”All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, ‘Is not this Joseph’s son?’He said to them, ‘Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, “Doctor, cure yourself!” And you will say, “Do here also in your home town the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum.” ’And he said, ‘Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet’s home town. But the truth is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land; yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon.There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.’ When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with rage. They got up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff.But he passed through the midst of them and went on his way.”
