دَخَلَ بِيلاطُسُ مِنْ جَديدٍ إِلى دَارِ الوِلايَة، ودَعَا يَسُوعَ وقَالَ لَهُ: «هَلْ أَنْتَ هُوَ مَلِكُ اليَهُود؟».أَجَابَ يَسُوع: «أَمِنْ عِنْدِكَ تَقُولُ هذَا، أَمْ قَالَهُ لَكَ عَنِّي آخَرُون؟».أَجَابَ بِيلاطُس: «أَيَهُودِيٌّ أَنَا؟ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ والأَحْبَارَ أَسْلَمُوكَ إِلَيَّ، فَمَاذَا فَعَلْت؟».أَجَابَ يَسُوع: «مَمْلَكَتِي لَيْسَتْ مِنْ هذَا العَالَم. لَو كَانَتْ مَمْلَكَتِي مِنْ هذَا العَالَم، لَكَانَ حَرَسِي يُحَارِبُونَ لِئَلاَّ أُسْلَمَ إِلى اليَهُود. أَجَل، مَمْلَكَتِي لَيْسَتْ مِنْ هُنَا».فَقَالَ لَهُ بِيلاطُس: «أَمَلِكٌ أَنْتَ إِذًا؟». أَجَابَ يَسُوع: «أَنْتَ تَقُولُ إِنِّي مَلِك. إِنِّي لِهذَا وُلِدْتُ ولِهذَا أَتَيْتُ إِلى العَالَم، لِكَي أَشْهَدَ لِلحَقّ. فَكُلُّ مَنْ هُوَ مِنَ الحَقّ، يَسْمَعُ صَوتِي».قَالَ لَهُ بِيلاطُس: «ومَا هُوَ الحَقّ؟». قَالَ هذَا، وعَادَ فَخَرَجَ إِلى اليَهُود، وقَالَ لَهُم: «أَنَا لا أَجِدُ فِيهِ أَيَّ ذَنْب!
